Crunchie ( coconut Oat Bars)

Crunchies

This is a family favourite.

Crunchies are a delicious, easy, oat and coconut traybake flavoured with golden syrup from South Africa. 

Ingredients:

2 cups desiccated coconut

1 cup flour

1 cup sugar

2 ½ cups oats

½ lb butter

¾ tsp Bicarbonate of soda

3 tbls golden syrup

Method:

Grease a 12 x 8 inch tray

In a large bowl mix together the coconut,flour ,sugar and oats and mix well.

Place the butter, bi carb and golden syrup in a large heavy pan.

Melt on medium heat bring to boil and pour over the dry ingredients.

Mix well then pour into a greased tray with 1-2inch sides. Pat down.

Bake in oven gas mark 4 for 15- 20 mins till it is golden.

Leave to cool for 10 – 15 mins till it is firm to touch then cut into squares.

Leave in tray till cold.

Can be drizzled with chocolate.
